Silva Requiem is a collection of handbuilt vessels with imprints of leaves and branches, in remembrance of the ‘bush’ landscape prior to the 2019 NSW fires.
The vessels are splashed with oxides, then fired in tins containing sawdust and seaweed. The combustible materials play their part in the overall emotion of this work. Sawdust from trees and seaweed from the sea where ash landed day after day brought there on the prevailing winds.
This has become an ongoing project outside of this exhibition.
